Hellooo everyone!

Another busy week for me, getting my bottom into gear with some commissions, meetings and as usual, work, work and a little bit more work… Commission wise, I think I will keep my mouth shut for a little while, and update you once I am further down the line, but I have just begun a lovely commission and I'm really excited about this one! I also have a few other things in the pipelines but again, for now I think I will keep schtwm, but take my word for it, they're all very exciting...  This week I also attended my first big meeting for the Anglesey Sea Zoo, which was hosted at the beautiful Nant Gwrtheryn, a place I have never been before but will certainly be revisiting on non-official business (aka for tea and cake). It is truly stunning itself and has a wonderful sense of history, and unfortunately this time I didn't have the time to learn about it, but will definitely look forward to exploring next time! (Even if the drive down to get there was pretty scary, especially considering the very dense fog that was present on the morning I had to get there!)

Have you ever heard of Inktober? I am pleased to say that this October, I will be doing my best to take part in Inktober and challenging myself to create new art every day. Inktober is an annual creative challenge that numerous artists across the world take part in and every year the official Inktober website releases a list of prompts for each day in October. These vary from Halloween themed prompts to generic ideas for a drawing, and the idea is that you can only use ink-based materials to create your daily piece. I always try to create at least a few Inktober drawings a year but I usually miss the first few days and then feel it's too late to join in! However, this year I am preparing myself and also telling you about it in a bid to encourage myself to stick to the challenge! As you probably know, I have been super duper wuuuuper busy for these past few weeks and I feel like I've let the actual arty side of things slip a little, having been focused on various other ventures. I'm hoping taking part in Inktober, even if it's just a quick sketch, will get me into the habit of drawing every day in the new studio. So far, I find I either start out and spend hours in my studio, or I don't venture in there at all in the day. Whilst I absolutely love having a studio, it is easier to put off doing work when it's not next to my bed or on the dining room table like it used to be when we lived in a smaller place, and I had to do my work anywhere I could! I used to pass my desk every time I went into our bedroom or passed by to go to the bathroom, and so I'd often find on the way back I'd just sit in my desk for a few minutes every time and get a little bit of work done! Whereas now, I either spend a lot of time in the studio… or I don't… but I'm hoping I can create some good habits during Inktober. http://mrjakeparker.com/inktober I think that's it from me this week folks, I will see you next week with the first week’s worth of Inktober drawings! I hope you're as excited for it as I am!! Catch you next week, Rachel x
